Phuket for Christmas.....

So we set off to Phuket which would become one of our longest and worst journey's, working out to be 4 hours longer than our plane trip to Thailand (14 hours), it started in the back of a pick up truck to the ferry, a couple of hours on an air-con ferry which was nice, unfortunately the journey did not improve after this, we were crammed into a bus with very loud thai dance music, taken a very short distance and then told we all had to get off, waited ages while we were crammed into pick up trucks and taken 5 minutes down the road to a cafe and told we only had 15 minutes to order and eat food before our bus left, which for us was no problem (if we'd known this would be our last meal for a while we would've crammed a lot more in!!) then it was into a mini bus for a 2 hour journey and then dropped off again, then a big bus which seemed to be taking not only tourists but any Thai person that wanted to flag it down which meant our journey took FOREVER!

We arrived at Phuket bus station to find lots of guys with mopeds offering us a ride (mmmm not sure we'd fit on the back with all our bags!) finally found a taxi which took us to a hostel with a dutch couple (thought we'd share to save funds!) unfortnately when we arrived they were booked up, it was about 11pm by now and we were starting to get a little worried, so off we set walking through the streets of a rather quiet phuket looking for a taxi (normally they are everywhere calling out 'taxi taxi' but this time no one to be seen) then a guy appeared in the darkness and offered us a taxi ride (phew!) So we decided to ignore the Lonely Planets advice of staying in Phuket Town and headed to Patong! The taxi driver turned out to be a massive Pink Flloyd fan and proceeded to play us all the old classics on our journey which involved lots of hills (we were'nt sure his car would make it up some of them!!) Anyways we finally arrived and found a place to sleep for the night...

The next day we hired a moped and set off in search of our Christmas accommodation, we'd decided to upgrade as a Christmas treat and this what we had to make do with.....

It had an awful view....

and the room service took all of 15 mintutes to arrive....

The next few festive days were very stressful, one of the hardest things was choosing between the 3 pools the hotel had without getting lost....

Eating out every night can be quite a chore you know.....(check out the Christmassy lights in the hotel gardens..)

Before we knew it, it was Christmas Day - Can anyone guess what Santa go Dan??

We looked everywhere for a Christmas Roast for Dan but he just had to make do with a LARGE steak at the Hard Rock Cafe instead.....

Although we didn't have a Christmas Roast this year there was plenty of Christmas spirit to be found (if you looked hard enough)

we even found a Christmas Tree and a Chocolate house....

oh and Dan also got a santa hat.....

and I got a Christmas Badge (courtessey of my best bud Sarah)
