The North Island Adventure

So here begins the beginning of the end of our adventure via the blog, as you know we are back home in the UK but still thought we'd share the last part of our trip with you, which included travelling around the North Island, Fiji, Australia and Dubai, where did it all go so wrong!?

Here we are waving goodbye on Krissy & Andy's Deck, have to say this was quite an emotional day for us after all the wonderful times we've had in Wellington :(

So off we went and our first stop, heading North was Whanganui....

This is a war memorial that you could climb....

Here's the view from the top this is the Whanganui river...

Here's Dan at the top and any excuse that boys took his top off - must've been hot!!

Bit of an arty shot by me...

No time to hang around we were soon back on the road and admiring the beautiful north island countryside...

I loved how this tree managed to grow on the tip of this hill!

Finally we find some sheep, they really don't know the green cross code out here!

First waterfall of the North Island - not bad.

We had been driving for hours and as you know we do love to eat so when we realised we were still along way from our first camping spot so we had to pull over and have a snack to keep us going...here I am at Cafe Jonah

Here's Mount Taranaki....stunning

Random use of drift wood....after that picture was taken we turned off the main state highway and took an 'unsealed road' route for over an hour at a very slow speed due to the rocks and pot holes before we finally found the campsite....

It wasn't a very busy site and it was free so we justified the incredibly long journey to find it!.

There's the Whangnui river behind Dan, we met some people that had canoed all the way from Whanganui to our campsite which made our journey feel a lot easier! Its also from the film Without a Paddle.

Dan's getting the bbq fired up.

Getting the tea on :)

Looking good Dan! This was to protect himself from the Sand Flies honest!!

In the morning, after a quick coffee in the very quite camp cafe, we hit the road again. Gorgeous rolling green hills and fields...

Just stunning...

Then is was time to hit the forgotten highway...

More sheep...

So this is the forgotten highway - Dan won't remember much of this because he was asleep!

It certainly was forgotten and bit overgrown but I quite liked it.

A rather small tunnel through a rather large mountain...

Phew we made it through!

More scenery...very different to the south island so far...

Finally we made it to the west coast and found the beach

Oh look Dan's got his top off again!

Off for a swim....

Rather a big stick!

At this stage we were still determined to stay fit after all our gym sessions back in Wellington here's Dan doing some press ups while I take pictures!

After a good nights sleep at a nice campsite, I had a shower with a massive spider then it was time to hit the Surf Highway...

OK well that's it now, next update will be the surf highway and more...
