2010 the begining - Phi Phi and Railay....

After seeing the new year in, on new years day we decided to take a boat trip with our 2010 hangovers first stop monkey beach.....

Then it was onto a really amazing snorkeling spot (sorry no pic's still gotta buy an underwater camera!) then onto the beach where they filmed 'The Beach'......

After all that snorkeling Dan needed a snack and luckily even on this uninhabited island they sold pringles and pot noodles.....

As you can see it doesn't really look how the film portrayed it but still amazing to see ...

The next day was our last day on Phi Phi and we were told by a good friend (Bradley) we had to do the view point and after over 350 steps (I didn't realise Danny could count that high!) and some very steep paths we made it and yes Bradley it was worth it :)

Then it was off on the ferry to mainland Railay beach as recommended by Anna and proving what a small world it is we bumped into Matt Peplow while out on our first night, we had a couple of singha's and shared travelling stories it was nice to see a familiar face from home....

Railay was amazing it had 3 different beaches with sheer cliff faces, people randomly climbing them (some without safety rope!) and amazing caves one of which was a diamond cave...(didn't find any though!)

This is the worst of the 3 beaches which wasn't really for sun bathing but still a spectacular view with mangroves and long tail boats.

and this was the best by far of the 3.....

Most people hire a long tail boat to skip from island to island Dan hires 1 to carry his lunch!

The dusting of clouds in this picture were the calm before the storm that was about to appear, Danny said 'maybe we better head back before that sets in' and I replied 'nah let's soak up maximum rays, anyways what the worst that can happen, we'll get wet'???........

(we couldn't caputre the extreme thunder and lightennig but I can assure you it was there too!). As many of you know I am never wrong but on this occasion I did have to admit defeat!

The next day the sun had returned so we headed down to the beach before we left for our epic journey (that's in the next installment!) and we came across hundreds of monkeys rummaging the bins of the only 5* hotel in Railay bet the thousand pound a night guests weren't prepared for that!

We named this alpha male John due to the handlebar moustache (this one made Dan particularly home sick as John reminded him of his Dad)

Sorry we got a bit carried away with the monkey pics (I love them!)

Here are a few shots of the other end of our fave beach amazing just the sheer size of the rock faces which a number of people we climbing daily - this seriously is a climbers haven we stuck to paddling :) (or plodging as John would say)

This was the picturesque walk way via the view point (I'll come to that in the minute) which had amazing stalactite's hanging down.

and luckily for us when one fell Super Dan was there to catch it....

We were going to check out the view point after Phi Phi being so successful but once we saw the vertical route we had to take we decided there just wasn't enough time (damn shame) and we had to get on and do the blog before we left for our epic journey....

and here I am doing the blog in our local internet cafe - it was Dan's favourite look at the beer prices above my head!
